Senior Designer / Graphic Designer Manager 


A Construction Company are looking for an Inhouse Senior Designer/ Graphic Design Manager to join their team to be able to be involved translating strategy and business objectives into creative proposals and design executions and be responsible for protecting and developing the visual brand.

As the Graphic Design Manager you will work closely with marketing and communications colleagues to deliver tactical marketing communications plans, develop compelling, on-brand communications, project manage activity and measure results to demonstrate ROI.

You will be producing a range from, and not be limited to, the following: brochures, event collateral and materials, presentations, onsite brand applications, office brand applications, internal communications campaigns, digital marketing campaigns, photography commissions, animations, brand guidelines, templates. Graphic designers are expected to take a business partner approach to internal stakeholders and bring new ideas to the department.

Breakdown of role: Strategy 20%, Planning 30%, Implementation 50%

Detailed breakdown of responsibilities

Visual brand planning

  • Works with the graphic design team to develops and delivers an annual visual brand plan and support marketing, digital, communications, PR and CX on delivering their annual plans
  • Conducts effective research and brief taking with business leaders and business development to ensure relevance of delivered products
  • Keeps abreast of creative and industry developments, competitors and trends
  • Develops, plans, implements, manages and evaluates effective campaigns on time and to budget
  • Demonstrates excellent project management skills with ability to multi-task and set priorities with tight timelines and high client expectations
  • Executes design and desktop publishing assignments from concept to completion - including taking the creative brief, soliciting feedback, achieving sign off and coordinating publication/distribution
  • Extracts briefs and requirements from a variety of stakeholders from across the global business
  • Being creative within the brief while remaining mindful of the constraints of cost and time
  • Presents own creative ideas and concepts to internal customers
  • Develops conceptual design work for print and digital and delivers print-ready artwork
  • Develops templates across Microsoft Office 365 (O365) products and Adobe Creative Suite for easy of use by non-designers
  • Delivers on-brand materials for the business across all channels and all platforms (O365 included) as required
  • Ability to take photography and shoot video when required
  • To work closely with the in-house digital marketing team to develop design and technical skills for online media
  • Occasional copy writing may be required
  • Responsible for quality control of all processes and outputs relating to own projects (brief, plan, feedback reports, close out reports, message management, plan, meeting agendas and minutes, action plans, client trackers, marketing activity and monthly reports)


Visual communications

  • Acts as a custodian of the brand on the back of a complete understanding of brand journey, brand position and brand differentiators
  • Proactively promotes the visual narrative of the brand on the back of a complete understanding of the ideal visual identity and become fluent in its application
  • Follows corporate tone of voice and style guide and takes a proactive role to educating employees and suppliers on its use
  • Develops a good understanding of the business, the industry and competition
  • Creates opportunities to positive promote the idea brand to build brand credibility and trust
  • Manages design element of communications across all channels for area of responsibility including: media relations, digital, site branding, awards, exhibitions and events
  • Works closely with the various heads of function, digital team and communications team to identify and create design elements to support campaigns
  • Identifies and extracts strategically important stories for use in larger campaigns and across other channels
  • Works with wider team to ensure that photography and design effectively communicate message and brand standards
  • Acts as an ambassador for the company at all times


Organisation and people

  • Manages own campaigns and projects from start to finish
  • Analyses communications channels on an on-going basis for effectiveness and relevance
  • Manages relationships with external suppliers in line with department's SLAs
  • Ensures coordination with other channels, specifically PR, online communications, site communications, marketing collateral and photography
  • Contributes to the department's overall resource planning and employee development strategy
  • Works as a key member of the department, providing insight and knowledge where applicable
  • Responsible for projects resource planning using the department's project management system


Evaluating and decision-making

  • Make decisions relating to own projects without direction
  • Evaluate and report lessons learnt and recommendations on own project activity
  • Monitors and tracks return on investment from key campaigns over a 12 month period
  • Prioritises output based on corporate strategy and messaging


Quality control

  • Escalates un-corrected bad practice and non-compliance to line manager
  • Ensures all relevant approvals are gained prior to publication with a robust audit trail
  • Ensures consistency across all communications channels in terms of reflecting our brand values, differentiators, message, tone of voice, brand guidelines and style



  • Commissioning, sourcing and briefs freelancers and consultants across illustrations, photography, videography, animation, brand products
  • Procures print, proofs artwork for print, and coordinates printers to ensure quality and timely dispatch
  • Ensures projects meet budgets and that issues are escalated in a timely way


Financial budgeting and control

  • Contributes to the financial management processes
  • Estimates budgets for specific projects and campaigns
  • Ensures projects meet budgets or that issues are escalated in a timely way


Essential skills

  • Degree educated or similar in Graphic Design or related
  • Experience of in-house design for professional services, ideally built environment
  • Portfolio of own work to demonstrate strong design skills and experience
  • Demonstrable ability to design in accordance to brand guidelines
  • Above-average IT-literacy, with excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills - InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator - Digital skills - AfterEffects (basic knowledge) - and Microsoft 365 applications skills - PowerPoint, Sway, Word.
  • Understanding and some experience of UI / UX design is preferable and ability to design motion graphics an advantage
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Ability to translate strategy into plans including creative proposals, research, analysis and supporting tactics
  • Demonstrable experience of liaising with suppliers and consultants
  • Standard marcomms systems including website CMS and CRM systems
  • Excellent presenting skills and able to articulate concepts to non-designers effectively
  • Leading meetings
  • Ability to extract briefs, positively challenge assumptions and bring forward creative, innovative ideas
