Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Features Writer to join an established publishing/media agency who produce market-leading b2b titles, events and digital content for the retail sector. This is a part time permanent position working 2 days per week. They are working a hybrid system, coming into the London office 1 day per week.

The Role:
The features writer is an exciting role, working across the majority of print and digital titles. You will deliver market-leading features in across retail, food and drinks trends, category insight and business advice for our retail audience.

You will maintain a high profile with customers and work closely with other teams across the agency to build on our reputation for quality content and our trusted relationship with retailers.
 

You will be responsible for:

  • Development of fresh angles and exclusive insight
  • Focus on engagement and tracking feedback from top retailers and suppliers
  • Accuracy of output and adherence to high editorial standards and deadlines
  • Creation of high-value, specialist content
  • Effective use of digital style, SEO and multimedia content
  • Increasing engaged users and online views
  • Unlock and nurture new supplier contacts

Responsibilities:

  • To deliver creative, insightful and profitable content across all print and digital channels
  • To develop and maintain profitable relationships with suppliers and retailers
  • Inform editorial plans so our innovative content meets market needs and attracts investment from suppliers
  • To collaborate with the news team to ensure all content joins up
  • To support the sales team with business leads
  • To proof pages within our style guide
  • To produce online features in line with SEO best practice, and promote them through social media
  • To ensure all material is published within the law, taking legal advice where necessary and keeping the features editor and editor in chief aware of key issues
  • To support the agency's overall insight and editorial strategy
  • To be aware of market trends and competitor activity and help develop forward-thinking ideas to keep us ahead
  • To collaborate well with the sales, design, production, events and marketing teams to maximise sales and ensure efficient processes are followed
     

Essential

  • You will be results-driven, with good commercial awareness and customer understanding, demonstrated by examples of creating content that generates a return for advertisers
  • You will have good people skills and be a good collaborator, demonstrated by examples of building contacts and of teamwork to deliver results
  • You will be creative, with a thirst for innovation and for getting ahead of the competition, demonstrated across print and digital platforms and supported by planning and networking skills
  • You will be able to understand and represent readers, championing their interests, demonstrated by examples of effective communication, quality writing, product improvement, and engagement

Knowledge

  • Two years' experience of feature writing in print and online
  • Ability to understand and represent the target audience
  • Fluency with using social media to promote and gather content
  • Understanding of SEO best practice
  • Ability to ensure editorial values of accuracy, relevance, ease of use, and all material published within the law

Skills

  • A high level of organisation, planning skills and ability to hit multiple deadlines
  • Sourcing feature ideas and hooks from various outlets
  • Ability to write features to a high standard, that is accurate and relevant to our readers
  • Multi-tasking

Desirable

  • You will have strong digital and social media skills
  • You will have a full toolkit of editorial skills, including up-to-date legal knowledge, and demonstrated by examples of problem solving and of seizing opportunities
  • You will have excellent knowledge of, and contacts within, the UK convenience market
  • You will have strong face-to-face skills and will be confident and skilled at public speaking and presenting
